Who is at risk?
We all are! All mothers are at risk due to the hormone changes that occur after the delivery of the baby. It is not a mother's fault if she has a postpartum mood disorder. Here are a few statistics:
• 85-90% of births annually in the U.S. are affected by postpartum mood disorders.
• Not including Baby Blues, 50% of postpartum mood disorders go undetected.
• 90% of these women know that something is wrong, but less than one in five will report their symptoms to a health care provider and receive any kind of mental health treatment.
• The rest are undiagnosed, misdiagnosed or under diagnosed and receive no treatment.
Please seek help if you are experiencing things or as a partner seeing things that are worrying you. There are many avenues for treatment that you can discuss with your health care provider.
